Workshops
Workshops and practical training have always been a central part of Amadan Ensemble. Our training draws directly from the approaches we use to create our own work, with a particular focus on Clown, Bouffon, Physical Theatre, Devising, Complicité and Mime.
Our workshops are practical, playful and rooted in experimentation. Rather than sitting and talking about making theatre, we get on our feet, try things out, take risks and discover through doing. Our regular Workshop Series includes Pay What You Can training, helping us keep these opportunities accessible to artists regardless of their current employment or financial circumstances.
We provide training for not only professional and emerging artists, but also people from all backgrounds and levels of experience who simply want to try something new. You don’t need to be a performer or have any previous theatre training to take part. Our workshops offer a welcoming, playful environment where people can step outside their comfort zone, explore their creativity, build confidence and discover new ways of expressing themselves through movement, play and performance.
In our workshops can explore:
Clown — discovering play, pleasure, failure, connection with the audience and what makes you funny
Bouffon — exploring satire, parody, ensemble play and the relationship between performer and audience
Mime — developing physical expression, precision, imagination and visual storytelling
Complicité — exploring ensemble work, play, movement and collaborative approaches to creating performance
Physical Theatre & Devising — practical approaches to generating material, working collaboratively and turning ideas into performance.

Alongside our owned programmed workshops, Amadan delivers workshops for schools, youth and community groups, students, amateur performers and other organisations. We can adapt the length, level and focus of a workshop to suit the people taking part, from an introduction to physical theatre or clown through to more intensive exploration of a particular technique.
